چکیده

1. Strengths: The paper sketches the complexity of today's DNS infrastructure and shows a number of clever specific techniques to understand some aspects of DNS resolvers. The paper is written and presented well. It describes the complex infrastructure of DNS very well so that someone who is not keen on the system can also appreciate the paper. The reviewers also like the methodology to discover hidden entities in the DNS infrastructure. This methodology is a new contribution in the field. It's a clever exploration, which significantly contributes to the understanding of the current client-side of the DNS infrastructure.

Towards a Model of DNS Client Behavior

The Domain Name System (DNS) is a critical component of the Internet infrastructure as it maps human-readable hostnames into the IP addresses the network uses to route traffic. Yet, the DNS behavior of individual clients is not well understood. In this paper, we present a characterization of DNS clients with an eye towards developing an analytical model of client interaction with the larger DNS...

Consolidated Review of Exploring EDNS-Client-Subnet Adopters in Your Free Time

This paper explores how we can use the EDNS-Client-Subnet DNS extension to map out CDNs and content providers (CPs) that support it (currently only a small number, such as Edgecast and Google). This extension carries along the client's prefix with a DNS request, allowing DNS redirection based on client address rather than resolver address. Because the requests are not authenticated in any way, ...

CoDNS: Improving DNS Performance and Reliability via Cooperative Lookups

The Domain Name System (DNS) is a ubiquitous part of everyday computing, translating human-friendly machine names to numeric IP addresses. Most DNS research has focused on server-side infrastructure, with the assumption that the aggressive caching and redundancy on the client side are sufficient. However, through systematic monitoring, we find that client-side DNS failures are widespread and fr...

Highly - Available Redundantly - Distributed DNS

The DNS or Domain Name System is a critical piece of the Internet infrastructure. In recent times there have been numerous attacks on DNS, the Kaminsky attack being one of the more insidious ones. Current solutions to the problem involve patching the DNS software (Bind) and/or using DNSSEC. Unfortunately, these are forklift upgrades of the DNS infrastructure and are not always feasible especial...

Combating Malicious DNS Tunnel

The Domain Name System (DNS) is a fundamental Internet infrastructure, which resolves billions of queries per day in support of global communications and commerce. The most common use of DNS is to map human-friendly domain names to machine-readable IP addresses. The DNS is designed based on the client-server model where stub resolver at the client side originates DNS query for some query name an...
